The annual local Hershey Track and Field Competition was held May 23rd at Kenwood High School. The competition gives young athletes a chance to showcase their skills in track and field, long jump and softball throw. Those athletes placing first in the local competition advance to the district competition and compete for a place in the statewide competition.
Results for the local competition were as follows: The winners in the 9-10-year-old division of both the 50 Meter Dash and the 100 Meter Dash were Alaysia Johnson and Deja Walls. Winners of the Softball Throw were Trey Singer, Zion Holmes, Alaysia Johnson, and Deja Walls.
The winners in the 11-12-year-old division of the 100 Meter Dash were Sha'Ron Campbell, Ja'Kobie Kindle, Bethany Rich, and Dominique Walls. The winners of the 200 Meter Dash were Desmond Washington, Bethany Rich, and Dominique Walls. Winners of the 400 Meter Dash were Javonte Garrett and Desmond Washington. Winners of the Standing Long Jump were Desmond Washington, Sha'Ron Campbell, and Bethany Rich. The winners of the Softball Throw were Sha'Ron Campbell, Ja'Kobie Kindle, and Dominique Walls.
The winners in the 13-14-year-old division of both the 100 Meter Dash and 200 Meter Dash were Chris Farrow, Steven James, and Claire Singer. Winners of the Standing Long Jump were Steven James and Claire Singer. The winners of the Softball Throw were Chris Farrow, Da'Vayon Head, and Claire Singer.
The first and second place athletes in the local competition advanced to the District Hershey Track and Field Competition. Six local athletes placed first in the district competition and will advance to the State Competition in Murfreesboro June 20.
In the 9-10-year-old girls' division, Alaysia Johnson will compete in the 50 Meter Dash. In the 11-12-year-old girls' division, Bethany Rich will compete in the 100 Meter Dash, 200 Meter Dash, and the Standing Long Jump. In the 11-12-year-old boys' division, Javonte Garrett will compete in the 400 Meter Dash and Sha'Ron Campbell will compete in the Softball Throw. In the 13-14-year-old girls' division Caitlyn Rich will compete in the Softball Throw and Claire Singer will compete in the Long Jump and 200 Meter Dash competitions.
