Area cross country teams perform well at Titus Invitational

The Chapel Hill varsity girls cross country team earned their third first place finish of the season Saturday at the Titus County Fair Invitational. The Mount Pleasant boy's varsity team finished sixth behind District 13-4A opponents Sulphur Springs, who finished first, and Marshall who came in third. Spring Hill finished second in the boys varsity race. The Hughes Springs girl's team finished third in the varsity girls competition and the Mount Pleasant girl's team finished in tenth place.

In the junior high girl's race, Chapel Hill finished in second place with 105 total points, behind Liberty Eylau. More than 1000 runners from Class 1A to Class 5A schools competed at the meet.

Leah Schumacher paced the Chapel Hill varsity team by finishing fourth overall with a time of 13:04. Katlyn Thompson had a time of 13:16 in eighth place and Megan Merrill came in 15th with a time of 13:45. Sandra Netro's time was 13:59, Hannah Stevens' time was 14:14, Emily Bassinger's was 14:41, and Courtney Gaddis' was 15:26. Mount Pleasant had three runners in the top 40 and Hughes Springs had one in the top ten.

Rodrigo Netro led the Chapel Hill boys' team by coming in ninth overall. Mount Pleasant had three runners in the top 40. Janet Netro finished 11th overall for the Chapel Hill girl's team. Mount Vernon placed eighth individually.

In the junior high girl's race, Chapel Hill's Hannah Lee finished third overall with a time of 14:09 followed by Jessica Netro in sixth place with a time of 14:17. McCall Giddens and Amanda Calvert finished in 29th and 30th place. Rivercrest finished in third place individually.

Chapel Hill's Alex Nunn led the Red Devils in the boys' junior high race, finishing 12th overall with a time of 13:01. Lane Millsap finished in 31st place with a time of 13:56.

Mount Pleasant's next meet will be at Lindale on Friday, Oct. 3. Chapel Hill's next meet will be at the Pepsi Challenge at Bob Sandlin Park on Saturday, Oct. 4.
