HERMISTON & PENDLETON
EUGENE - Oregon's up-and-coming track stars competed at the Hershey's Track and Field Games over the weekend at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Ten athletes with roots in Umatilla County participated in the meet, which sends first place finishers to the national meet in Hershey, Penn., based on national qualifying times.
The top finish for any local athlete was the second place notched by Hermiston's Ebony Wilson in the 11-12-year-old girls' 100-meter dash and by Pendleton's Ariel Garton in the 9-10 girls' 400 and 200.
Garton was behind Bend's Kylie Haidet in the 400 and Portland's Diamond Singleton in the 200.
Wilson finished just behind Bend's Michaela Miller in the 100 and also placed third in the 200.
Pendleton's Adrianne Browning also competed in both the 11-12 100 and 200, placing 15th and 11th.
Pendleton's Delaney Clem posted a third-place finish in the girls' 13-14 800.
Other area competitors in the meet, their event and finish were: Pendleton's Christina Thompson (10th, 13-14 girls' 100), Pendleton's Carey Colton (10th, 13-14 boys' 100, 9th in the 200), Pendleton's Chyenne Carey (14th, 11-12 girls' 800), Adams' Logan Wahl (10th, 9-10 boys' 400), Athena's Sierra Schneibner (7th, 9-10 girls' 50) and Pendleton's Remington Christensen (10th, 9-10 boys' 200).
