Cross-country teams win invitational titles; MVL meet set Saturday

Boys’ final scores were Morgan 24, John Glenn 49, Newcomerstown 70, and Indian Creek 97. Girls’ final scores were Morgan 29, Indian Creek 52, Loudonville 89, Malvern 92, and John Glenn 95.

The junior high girls placed second overall in the two-mile middle school race. Junior high girls’ final scores were Martin’s Ferry 39, Morgan 57, New Philadelphia 88, Harrison Central 109, Bell-Herron 113, and Cambridge 114.

All seven runners on the boys team received medals for placing in the top 20 with four runners setting personal best times in the 3.1-mile race. Zak Smith led the team with his third-place finish in a personal best time of 18:26. Caleb Clawson finished sixth in 18:54, Jimmy Webb was eighth in 19:30, Broc Roberts ran 19:40 to finish ninth, and Brandon Totman ran a personal best time of 19:45 to take 10th place. Grant Smith (20:29) and Casey Clawson (20:51) finished 14th and 16th, respectively, in personal best times to complete the Raider scoring.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Raiders came home with a team plaque and eight medals for top 20 finishers. Kaci Jago was third overall in 22:16 and Rachel Beam was fourth in a personal best time of 22:43 to lead the team. Natalie Richardson took 10th in 24:31, followed by Kristine Krigbaum (24:41) in 11th and Taylor Starkey in 12th in a personal best time of 24:46. Karis Marcum (25:02), Kristie Marcum (26:29) and Brandi Roberts (27:27) all ran personal best times and finished in the top 20. Great job, ladies!

Baylee Garrett finished seventh overall in the middle school girls’ race in 13:57. Virginia Ferrell (14:12) was 12th, Taylor Harlow (14:47) was 16th and Amanda Beam (15:41) was 24th overall to bring home medals for finishing in the top 25 in the field of 62 runners.

Korie Robinson (15:49) was 26th, Dani Mae Hopkins (16:16) was 32nd, and Shelby McDowell (17:06) was 40th overall to complete the team scoring.

All teams compete next at the MVL Championship meet this Saturday morning at John Glenn. Good luck, Raiders!

The Morgan cross-country teams traveled to Crooksville recently for a double dual meet with Crooksville and Sheridan.

The boys suffered their first MVL loss of the season to Sheridan 41-18.

Caleb Clawson placed third overall in 19:09 to lead the team. Zak Smith (19:35) was eighth, Broc Roberts (20:04) was ninth, Brandon Totman (20:07) was 10th, and Jimmy Webb (20:10) was 12th. Grant Smith ran 22:19 for 17th place, and Casey Clawson was 21st in 22:48 to conclude the varsity scoring.

On the girls side, the Lady Raiders defeated Crooksville 50-15, but lost to Sheridan 38-17. Kaci Jago led the team with her sixth-place finish overall in 23:37. Rachel Beam was seventh in 23:48, followed by Natalie Richardson (24:52) in ninth, Rachel Alexander (25:02) in 10th, Kristine Krigbaum (25:16) in 11th, and Holly Haines (26:23) in 12th. Karis Marcum finished 14th in 26:51 to complete the Lady Raiders’ scoring.

In the junior high race, Baylee Garrett was narrowly defeated by Sheridan’s Denae Forgrave 14:01 to 14:05. Virginia Ferrell was third overall in 14:25, followed by Taylor Harlow (14:55) in fourth, Korie Robinson (16:47) in 12th, and Dani Mae Hopkins (16:55) in 13th. Shelby McDowell was 14th and Miranda Cain was 15th overall as the Lady Raiders lost to Sheridan 33-26.
