Youth Disabled 800 Meter Exhibition
USATF and the Youth Athletics Division are excited to announce the Youth Disabled 800 Meter Exhibition at the 2009 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships. This event was approved by the Youth Body at our 2008 Track & Field Convention. This event marks the beginning of our efforts to promote inclusion in youth events and programs and supports the organization’s mission to foster interest and participation in track and field. “This is an opportunity for our Disabled Athletes to Exhibit their Athletic Skills at the best Youth Track & Field meet in the world,” said USATF Disabled Athlete Committee Chair Steven Cuomo.
DATE: Saturday August, 1, 2009
LOCATION: North Carolina A&T State University – Irwin Belk Track
EVENTS:
Two (2) wheelchair
Two (2) ambulatory
Each event will have a male and female race; four races total.
AGES:
High School- aged challenged athletes. 8th grade students will be considered if they can verify participation on a varsity team. This is the only exception.
ENTRY INFORMATION:
A 2009 USATF membership is required to enter .
Event times must be submitted on entry forms along with officials and meet director signatures.
An IEP or functioning level verification is required for Learning Disabled applicants.
Qualifying times and entries are being accepted beginning Monday February 23, 2009 thru Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 8:00pm EST.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:
A subcommittee of 3-5 members will review all applications and make final selections.
The 8 fastest male and female wheel chair & ambulatory times will be invited to compete in the exhibition race held August 1, 2009.
Athletes will be notified by phone, email, and or letter by July 3, 2009.
