UAGTCA Opens their 36th Outdoor Series with a Bang ….. by Ron Jackson
The United Age Group Track Coaches Association (UAGTCA) launched its’ 36 consecutive Outdoor Development series on Saturday May 5, 2012 with an enthusiastic crowd of parents, coaches and athletes. The 981 participating athletes were the largest number of athletes to ever participate in a UAGTCA opening day meet. With 2012 being an Olympic year, I suspect that track & field participation must be high on the agenda for almost everyone.
The young athletes over looked a chilly, overcast late April day to post some remarkable early season marks. If these opening day performances are any indication of the marks to come, 2012 is going to be a great ride. Brooklyn Broadwater was determined to show that her 2011 performances were no fluke. Taking Gold in the Youth Girls 400 meter dash in 57.25, the 100 meter dash in 12.43 and the long jump in 4.40 meters she captured an early season triple.
Meet # 2 held on May 12, 2012 was no disappointment either. Meet #2 followed the record number of participants entered in Meet #1 with a new record of its’ own. The 1,222 registered athletes were the most ever at a UGTCA sponsored development meet. It would be very difficult to list all of the outstanding performances so I will jest let you view the results on our site at www.uagtca.org.
Meet #3 is already lining up to be very special.
