One week from today I will begin P.A.C.E. Trek 2011 – Destination: Mojave Desert. I have been very busy with the final preparations and am looking forward to this 506-mile, 17-day solo run. The web site is ready to go (www.pacetrek.com/mojave) and I’ll be posting audio files, videos, pictures and journal entries from the road. Also, school teams can still register for free at www.pacetrek.com/register.htm. Registration is open until next Wednesday, April 13.
There are thousands of school children registered from 9 countries to do this run with me virtually. I’ve recently sent an e-mail to all team leaders with instructions for this year’s event. I am now finalizing “BOB” (my support stroller) and am looking forward to flying to Arizona on Monday. I will spend a couple of days on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon before beginning the run on Thursday, April 14. The route can be seen at www.pacetrek.com/mojave/route.htm and will involve three states (Arizona, Nevada and California). The latest weather models show that the second half of April’s high temperatures for the Mojave should be in the mid-90s.
I have an online guestbook in place at www.pacetrek.com/mojave/guestbook.htm and hope to receive some notes of encouragement along the way. This will be a very challenging P.A.C.E. Trek in many ways and while running through such a remote area it will be nice to read some positive notes along the way.
So, that’s it. The adventure begins one week from today. Mojave Desert, here I come!
