NEWBERRY -- Logan Hensley finished first and Mark Smith was second, leading the Petoskey High School boys cross country team to a first-place finish Saturday in the Newberry Kiwanis Invitational.
The Northmen finished with 23 points, while Sault Ste. Marie, 40, was second in the seven-team field.
Petoskey's Sydney Hopp won the girls race, leading the Northmen to a second-place finish behind Sault Ste. Marie. The Blue Devils finished with 24 points, while the Northmen had 44.
Hensley's winning time in the boys race was 17 minutes, 30 seconds. Smith came in at 17:48. The Northmen claimed four of the top five spots. Thomas VanSlembrouck was fourth in 17:52, while Max Myerson was fifth in 18:07.
Petoskey's Jacob Kromm placed 11th, Ross Hooley was 15th, Christopher Taylor was 18th.
Hopp won the girls race in 21:00, while Savanna Pinkowski of Sault Ste. Marie was second in 21:37. The Blue Devils claimed all five spots from second-sixth.
Petoskey's Morgan Jons was seventh in 22:13, while Northman Melissa Myers was ninth in 22:19.
Also for Petoskey, Kathy Rajewski was 14th, Claire Brummeler was 15th, Megan Wilson placed 16th, and Jill Antonishen came in 17th.
Petoskey's Chase Gregory placed second in the JV boys race in 19:34, while David Hempstead, Cameron Shock and Bryson Opperman placed sixth-eighth, respectively, and Josh Pemberton was 10th.
Rachel Schulingkamp recorded Petoskey's best finish, fourth, in the JV girls race. Also for Petoskey, Jasmine Mapes was seventh, Abby Richmond was eight, and Ricki Coston placed ninth.
"Logan (Hensley) and Sydney (Hopp) led the way, but the team really stepped up and continued to improve, many running their personel best times," Petoskey coach Jim Harrington said.
