The Boys & Girls of New Haven Track and Field Team was established in 2005 with only 12 members. It had only 9 boys and 3 girls on the team. The Track and Field Team accommodates underprivileged and disadvantaged inner city youths. The team was established to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as great athletes. Though the team was small in numbers they were determined to do their best. The team competed locally and out of town.

In 2007 the team kept progressing and ran their first 4 x 100 meter relay. This qualified them for the Nationals in California. Our hard work and perseverance was recognized and we were invited to compete in North Carolina at the Russell Blunt East Coast Event. We were proud to have 10 of our 15 athletes to finish top ten.

Dedicated parents, coaches, and staff helped to build this team. By the year 2009 the team became larger. We now have over 40 athletes and are continuously signing up more that are interested in joining. This year the team continued competing nationally and locally. Our first competition of the year was in Bloomfield, Connecticut. We were invited at the 3rd Annual Bloomfield Month Track & Field Event. The Boys & Girls Club of New Haven Track and Field Team won the meet with 194 points. The team has three exceptional athletes, Harold Cooper, Darryn Horner and D’Andre Brown. Harold Cooper is 13 years old and won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11:10. Harold also ran the 200 meter dash with a time of 23:67 and the Softball throw 163-07ft. D’Andre Brown is another star athlete who is 6 years old. He competed and won the 100 meter dash with the time of 15:84, 200m in 34.74 and at the 400 meter he ran a total time of 34:74. Darryn Horner 14 years old won the 100m hurdles in a time of 15.67. To our delight Harold Cooper and D’Andre Brown both set their records. The team is extremely proud and our desire is to continue to make dreams happen.
