Maddie Meyers of Northwest Christian School ran in the "Last Chance" Meet at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility on Saturday. It is a meet, that was fittingly named, for it offered collegians like Marie Lawrence (UW) & A J Acosta (U of Oregon) a final chance to garner an automatic entry into the upcoming NCAA Indoor Championships. Both Mel & AJ acheved their goals in the 3K & mile respectively.
The meet also offered a last chance of sorts to young Ms. Meyers, who was ending her indoor campaign & it was emminently successful, for in her race against older collegians, the high school sophomore ran a stunning 4:46.77 in the mile. Not only was her effort the equal of Emily Lipari's former top record for the season, but it was the all-time record for the state of Washington. Maddie held back early in the field of collegiate runners & then gradually moved into sixth place inspite of the fact that most of the field was much older than her. It's another in a string of fine performances for her that include a state cross country title & a berth in the prestigious Foot Locker National Championships.

In an earlier heat Chandler Olson ran 5:09.83 for the mile. It is a fine time for a freshman girl. Also of note Alex Mauro, a junior from South Eugene, ran the 3000 Meters in a time of 9:11.72.
