USATF Foundation Releases "Fundamentals of the Long Jump" Training Manual INDIANAPOLIS - The USA Track & Field Foundation's "Fundamentals of the Long Jump" is now available online at usatffoundation.org, announced USATF Foundation Chairman Bob Greifeld and Executive Director, Tom Jackovic.

This comprehensive handbook will appeal to athletes, coaches and fans of the long jump, with its broad range of training techniques and interesting anecdotes. The manual is a great resource for both male and female long jumpers, from youth to elite to masters. The handbook is available to download free of charge.

The "Fundamentals of the Long Jump" is the first in a series of training manuals to be published by the USATF Foundation. A training guide for the 800m will be available online later this year.

"Working on this project was a lot of fun; a very rewarding experience," said author Matt Taylor. "It's interesting to talk with some of the best coaches and to hear their philosophies and ideas about training long jumpers. Clearly, there isn't one method or technique that will guarantee success, but what is clear is that the best coaches and athletes all focus on the same development areas, and they all understand how one stage of development leads into the next one. If a coach or athlete is looking for the magic bullet to long jump success, they won't find it here. But, if a coach or athlete is serious about long term development - from youth to high school to college to the professional ranks - this resource will provide a clear framework from which to work."

The USATF Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track and field programs with an emphasis on providing opportunities for youth athletes, emerging elite athletes and anti-doping education. The Foundation depends upon donations from its Board of Directors and from generous fans of track & field.
