Trevious Crossley was a two-time gold medal winner and set a state record at the Louisiana State Championship Meet for the Hershey's North American Youth Track and Field Games on Saturday at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette track complex.
Over 400 athletes qualified for the meet, which was hosted by the Lafayette Recreation and Parks Department.
In all, the Bastrop Track Club won gold medals in 16 events. Crossley was one of the club’s five double winners.
Crossley was clocked at 10.78 in the 100 meters, lowering the meet record by .31 seconds. Although he will not turn 13 until later this year, Crossley competed in the 13-14 year-old age group by rule.
Crossley also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.45.
Quaterius Hawkins and Desi Holmes were multiple winners in the 9-10 year-old boys division. Hawkins and Holmes teamed with Denterrius McHenry and Ce’lento Traylor to win the 4 x 100-meter relay with a readout of 1:00.15. In individual sprint events, Hawkins took the 100 (12.85), with Holmes claiming the 200 (32.35).
Bastrop also had two double winners in the 13-14 year-old girls age backet. Stataisjia Johnson, Chelzee Matthews, Dee McDaniel and Desire McHenry won the 4 x100-meter relay (51.77). McHenry and McDaniel were also individual winners in the 200 (26.84) and softball throw (152-09), respectively.
Bastrop won the 4 x 100-meter relay in four different classifications.
Aldarrius Dowles, Isaiah Graham, Isaiah Lollie and Makel Logan moved the stick for a time of 58.87 in the 11-12 year-old boys group, while Starwanda Brandley, Destini Davis, Azja Gates and Zakyia Matthews were clocked at 1:01.01 in the 11-12 year-old girls division.
Bastrop struck gold in three individual events in the 9-10 year-old girls age group. Marticia Johnson won the 50-meter dash (50.42), Jakiya White won the 400 (1:16.07) and Antiya Randle captured the softball throw (107-05).
Rounding out the Bastrop winners was Jessica Gray in the 13-14 year-old girls 800 with a time of 2:53.83.
State champions in the 9-14 year-old age groups are now up for a spot on the Southwest Regional team which will compete in the North American Finals in Hershey, Pa. on Aug. 1. The Southwest Region is comprised of Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico. Qualifiers for the North American event will be notified as soon as results are finalized from throughout the region.
