How do you pace yourself in long races like half marathons and marathons? How do you prepare for one?
The best advice I can give about pacing is practice, practice, practice! Pacing is always a challenge and I have certainly struggled with it over the years. If you are still in high school or middle school, I would stick with shorter races for now. Learning how to race the 5k and 10k will make you a better racer and teach you about your body's limits. Running a marathon or a half marathon is a great goal, but sticking with 5ks or 10ks for now will be good preparation. As your body matures and you get used to those distances, you can increase your long runs and tempo runs. These changes, coupled with your experiences in the 5k and 10k, will teach you about pacing yourself for longer races.
